- 1
In a bowl, combine the sesame paste, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, chili crisp, ground Sichuan pepper, and pressed garlic. Stir to combine.
💡 If you don't have sesame paste, peanut butter works as a substitute.
- 2
Prepare the garnish by julienning the cucumbers, chopping the green onions, and roughly chopping the cilantro.
💡 You can also use lettuce instead of cucumber for freshness.
- 3
Boil the wheat noodles in a pot of water for 3 minutes, stirring to prevent sticking. Once cooked, scoop the noodles out and set aside.
💡 If you can't find Chinese noodles, spaghetti is a good substitute.
🔥 boil⏱ 3 minutes
- 4
Using the same pot, bring the water back to a boil and add the wontons. Cook until they float, then cook for another 3 to 5 minutes depending on size.
💡 The time depends on the size of your wontons.
🔥 boil⏱ 3 to 5 minutes
- 5
Remove the wontons from the water and place them in a bowl. In the sauce bowl, add 1/2 cup of the reserved noodle water to the sauce mixture and stir until it reaches a smooth texture.
💡 The sauce is thick initially; the noodle water thins it out.
- 6
Add the cooked noodles to the sauce and toss until they are fully coated. Ladle a bit of the sauce over the wontons to coat them.
💡 The noodles might be a little sticky, so mix well to ensure coverage.
- 7
Place the sauced noodles in a serving bowl, top with the wontons, julienned cucumbers, green onions, cilantro, and a sprinkle of roasted sesame seeds.
Tips
- Peanut butter can be used as a substitute for sesame paste due to a similar flavor profile.
- Use the starch-heavy noodle water to thin out the sauce to the desired consistency.
- The chili-to-sauce ratio can be adjusted to your heat preference.
