  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the canned beans (with liquid), chopped white onion, minced garlic, tomato sauce, tomato paste, barbecue sauce, prepared yellow mustard, turbinado sugar, beef broth, molasses, Jack Daniel's, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, dehydrated bell pepper, salt, and black pepper.

💡 The beans can be any variety like pinto or red beans.

  2. 2

Give the mixture a really good mix to combine all ingredients.

  3. 3

Lay the bacon strips across the top of the bean mixture.

💡 The bacon is intended to render flavor into the beans.

  4. 4

Place the dish on the pellet grill and cook at 325°F for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes.

💡 The total time includes roughly 40 minutes to reach a simmer.

  5. 5

Once finished, remove from the grill and stir the beans, mixing the rendered bacon grease into the mixture.

💡 The bacon is mainly for flavor; you can mix it in or leave it on top.

Tips

  • Using canned beans with liquid simplifies the process by removing the need for overnight soaking.
  • The Jack Daniel's provides essence and flavor without tasting harsh like pure whiskey.
  • Be careful not to over-salt, as the broth and bacon already contain sodium.
  • A splash of vinegar can be added at the end if desired for extra tang.
